Friday 6th July 2018 hosted our 21st annual PRIDE event, attended by participants, tenants, staff, and the wider community. It was a fun-filled event, filled with singing, karaoke, food, tombola, laughter, and joy.

The tenant-led event was opened with a welcoming address by the Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville, followed with speeches from PBHA CEO Clare Norton, and our tenant event organizers Patrick and Joe. The strong link between homelessness and the LGBTQ+ community was highlighted and the progress made since PBHA held it’s first ever PRIDE event 21 years ago.

Everyone then ventured outside to join the Mayor of Hackney and a few of our tenants cut the Pride ribbon. The event then kicked off with the Talent Contest, which showcased many unique talents. The winners beamed with joy and proudness.

Then came time for food and the cutting of the Pride 2018 cake, which was cut by our participation officer Lani, who also shared on why Pride was very special to her.

As the afternoon of celebrations drew to an end, attendees were invited to let off balloons in celebration.

A few words from some of the attendees:

“I think the tenants who came enjoyed it and it was a really good atmosphere. It was also lovely to have it outside and really good that both Open Doors and the Mayor were able to attend.”

“Pride was one of the BEST EVER this year!”
