Textiles courses

Textiles for Outpost Shop and Gallery

Develop your skills and understanding of design using a sewing machine and hand stitching with mixed media. Learn simple and experimental techniques to produce artwork to display in a group exhibition in our Social Enterprise shop (Outpost) on Holloway Road.

Painting and Drawing – ‘Experimental Techniques’

Beginners’ Screen Printing (Evening Class)

This course is a creative and practical introduction to the screen printing process aimed at beginners and the curious. You will get a step by step guide in to producing your own series of prints using silk screens. At the end of the course you will have created an original framed piece of Art for home or as a bespoke gift.

Improvers Furniture Making (Evening Class)

Explore a range of joinery techniques and learn how to make a beautifully designed shelving unit.

Joinery Placements at The Workshop

Our joinery placements offer a supportive, inclusive environment where people with mental ill health or learning disabilities can learn practical skills in joinery, as well as develop skills to support recovery, social inclusion and employment.

Learners can expect to gain a range of practical woodworking skills including:

  • Joinery Techniques
  • Wood Finishing
  • Safe use of Hand Tools
  • Precision wood cutting measuring & assembling

Who is it for?

The Workshop is an inclusive space and our joinery placements are open to anyone who is experiencing challenging circumstances in their lives. This could be through mental health, learning difficulties, experience of homelessness or substance and alcohol dependency.

What does it cost?

We have a range of full day and half day placements throughout the week. Prices start at £35 for a half-day session including tuition and all materials.

How to join?

We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from social workers, care coordinators and other health and social care professionals.

Supporting Makers

One-to-one support for makers, designers and artists to independently produce handmade products for sale at Outpost and other retail outlets.
