Despite the torrential rain and 30mph winds, our Clissold Community Garden team showed exactly what community spirit looks like. For over 15 years, Peter Bedford Housing Association (PBHA) has proudly supported the London Parks & Gardens Trust during their annual Open Gardens weekend, a special moment each year when green spaces across London open their gates to the public. It’s a chance for visitors to discover hidden gardens, learn about the organisations behind them, and meet the people who nurture these spaces all year round.
Even with the downpour, our garden warriors were out early, setting up gazebos, creating dry spaces, brewing hot drinks, and preparing our plant‑sale table. Their determination meant we could still welcome visitors with warmth, shelter, and a smile.
One of the highlights was our wooden canoe garden bed, a beautifully repurposed canoe now overflowing with flowers, fruits and vegetables. It quickly became a talking point for visitors and a symbol of the creativity that drives our community projects.
The space looked stunning, with seasonal produce, vibrant flowers and thriving trees showing the impact of year‑round care from our volunteers and staff. Even in the rain, the colours and textures of the garden shone through.
