Great Cultural Get Together

Great Cultural Get Together took place on Wednesday 10th of September at Clissold Community Gardens. On a typical grey and rainy British day, our garden transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. We gathered under the shelter of colourful gazebos adorned with international flags creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere despite the weather. The air was filled with the aromas of a global feast, as we shared international food and snacks from a variety of backgrounds.

This wasn’t just a party; it was a powerful statement about unity. In a time when the news is often filled with stories of division, we chose to focus on what connects us. The centrepiece of our get-together was a creative activity: crafting individual art banners. Each banner was a canvas for our stories, with symbols of our countries, cultures, favourite foods, and flags. We also discussed interesting facts that gave a glimpse into our heritage and personal journeys.

As we worked on our banners, we shared memories and traditions and discovered surprising connections. It became clear that beneath the surface differences, we share fundamental human values: a love for friends & family, a desire for connection, and a deep appreciation for the unique threads that make up our individual identities.

This experience reminded us that our diverse backgrounds aren’t a source of separation but a rich tapestry that makes our PBHA community stronger. It was a beautiful and simple reminder that even on a rainy day, when we open and connect with others, we can build bridges and celebrate the values that unite us all.
