London Open Gardens

Every year, we open Clissold Community Garden as part of London Open Gardens and will be doing so again this Saturday 7th of June 2025 (10am to 4pm).

This London wide event hosted by the London Parks Trust gives the public ticketed access to gardens they would not otherwise have the chance to visit. It’s free for all PBHA tenants, participants and staff to attend.

Our gardener, tenants, and volunteers have been hard at work watering, weeding, and harvesting produce.

Gardening provides a therapeutic escape from everyday stress, offering a calming, meditative activity – especially valuable in a city like London. Weeding, digging, and planting also contribute to improved fitness.

Shared community gardens are miniature ecosystems, contributing to urban biodiversity by attracting bees and butterflies, and enhancing local ecological resilience. They’re green lungs in concrete jungles, improving local air quality and mitigating the urban heat island effect.

Shared gardens enhance food security and our tenants gain access to fresh (often organic) produce, supplementing their diets with healthy, locally grown food at our tenant led Saturday kitchen. This can be particularly impactful for those on tighter budgets, providing nutritious options that might otherwise be inaccessible.
