Pre-Employment Course

Learn, Get Work Ready and Achieve

The Enterprise and Training service currently has a number of programmes on offer to support you to get creative, gain new skills and undertake work placements within our enterprises:

  • One Digital: 1:1 sessions with a digital champion offering support with getting online and enjoying the benefits the internet offers such as saving money, connecting with others and searching for jobs.
  • Connect Hackney: Join others in a fun and welcoming space and take part in creative craft, computer sessions and gardening (Open to Over 50’s with Learning Disabilities across Hackney).
  • A Place for Everyone: Get creative, learn skills for life and get work ready. Choices of courses on offer as well as supported volunteering placements in Retail, Customer Service and Administration (Open to Hackney Residents aged 18 and over with Learning Disabilities and or Autism)
  • 1:1 Employability Support: This service is for people experiencing multiple barriers who currently feel unable to work. Focus will be on improving the job readiness and work ready behaviours of each individual.(Open to Tenants/ or Participants enrolled on a placement/ programme)

Supported Volunteering Placements

Retail Training

Gain on the job retail experience and training at Outpost, our shop & gallery in Holloway.

Duration: 30 hours training

Location: Outpost, Holloway Road, N7 6JP

Outpost is Peter Bedford HA’s contemporary store and art gallery in Islington. The shop has been part of North London’s landscape for the last 16 years and has supported hundreds of our tenants and participants into work and meaningful activity.

Outpost provides opportunities for tenants and participants to gain retail experience in a real working environment.

Working in retail can offer many exciting prospects, with many future possibilities. As well as a social atmosphere to work in, you will learn about the products and what interests customers.

Administration & Reception

Learn office skills through placements on our Reception at The Kingsland Hub, where you can also help to manage internal and external hire of events spaces.

Duration: 30 hours training

Location: Kingsland Hub, 242 Kingsland Road, E8 4DG

Would you like to gain experience in an office? We offer placements on our reception, where you can learn basic administration skills in a real working environment, with support from our friendly team of staff.

This placement will also give you events and hospitality skills, as our reception team also manage the booking and management of our meeting rooms, both for internal and external use.

There are also opportunities to gain references to help you find future employment.

Hospitality Training

Gain on the job experience at The Coffee Shop in Kingsland Hub, and gain skills in Food Safety, and Customer Service.

Duration: Ongoing

Location: Kingsland Hub, 242 Kingsland Road, E8 4DG

The Coffee Shop serves affordable and healthy food and drinks to local residents, visiting PBHA tenants and people who work in the area. By working here you will get a chance to gain barista (how to make the perfect coffee), customer service and food hygiene skills.

Working in hospitality can be hugely rewarding as you have a constant opportunity to interact with customers and help to provide a welcoming environment.

Employability Support

Our Enterprise and Training team offers 1-1 job coaching as well as personalised information, advice and guidance aimed at helping you gain valuable work skills and become more employable.

Coaching can include:

  • One-to-one confidential Information, Advice Guidance sessions designed to explore what is best for you.
  • Reception, Hospitality, Creative Industries, Community Gardening and Retail work experience and training in our social enterprises.
  • Back to work support – individual help with writing CVs, cover letters, job application forms and interview techniques, personal or employment reference.
