Elements of Peter Bedford's range of housing support and daytime
activities have been accessible to people with mental health problems
living in their own accommodation in the borough of Islington since
1996. We may wish to extend these services to others in the future
What do we provide?
Support workers meet with service users for approximately two hours a week for up to two years and offer help with any combination of the
following:-
- personal and emotional support.
- practical help with day to day living (e.g. shopping,
cleaning, cooking etc.).
- help and advice with claiming benefits and budgeting
money.
- help and advice with medication and in using appropriate
medical and other services.
- help and support in dealing with the landlord, where
appropriate, and with utilities.
- intervention and support in times of crisis.
- help and advice to access services and resources
in the borough.
It also provides access to social activities and groups, canteens
and cafes, training and employment services and a 24 hour emergency
phone line.
Who is it for?
People with severe and enduring mental health support needs who
- Are aged 21 - 65
- Need practical and emotional support around their
mental health needs
- Are isolated in current accommodation
- Live in Islington and are referred to PB through
the scheme
- Agree to abide by PB's equal opportunities policy
Who can refer?
Islington Social Services' Mental Health Teams, other mental health services, GPs, and any other related professional agency.
How are people recruited?
- Application form and risk assessment - applicant and referrer
- Assessment interview - applicant and PB allocation worker
- Meeting with allocated support worker
