Achieving aspirations and social inclusion is a new emphasis
in our work. With our highly successful practical and pragmatic
approach as a basis, we are now giving more structure and focus
to inspiring and motivating achievement across the whole spectrum
of life experiences and opportunities.
Lifelong discrimination and disadvantage can impact on self-belief in a very negative way. Without self-belief, the level and quality of people’s independence is compromised and people cannot achieve their full potential. We believe that helping people to overcome internalised barriers and low expectations is a challenge that demands our active attention. It is as much a part of the challenge of supporting independence as helping people to overcome the external barriers they encounter in their daily lives.
As well as demanding new approaches and new services,
Achieving Aspirations and Social Inclusion extends to everything we do and commits us to changing policies or practices which are out of harmony with promoting independence.
Support to maintain life in the community is the solid foundation on which people can build their lives. We believe that supporting people’s aspirations so that they can gain, not just maintain, is the route by which people can shape an even brighter future.
